skim coating, part deux

This weekend was all around Rumpus Room redo. We continued with the long process of skim coating…the third and fourth coats.

As I mentioned in the previous post, M read somewhere that adding dishwashing liquid helps prevent bubbles when applying the compound.

Then we mixed it into the joint compound with a metal paint mixer attached to the drill.

Tools…

And the third coat in progress!

For the fourth coat we used a lighter weight joint compound. This is where the ceiling really began to resemble….a smooth ceiling. Yeay!

If you look closely on the left side, you can see where we replaced the dropped ceiling with the new layer of drywall. See the little hole? That’s where the future pendant light will hang, above the future dining table. Future, future, future.

Fourth coat complete! Looking pretty smooth…

Hey Mish! Thanks for leaving a comment at HousePet. Your rumpus room redo looks like what we are currently trying to accomplish in our basement, except you are leaps and bounds (and stilts) ahead of us. So much hard work for two people!!! Can’t wait to see it finished! So far the work you guys have done on your home and yard is impressive. Glad to have found your blog!

Well done! I don’t know if you watch Glee, but on that show, the cheerleading squad did an entire routine on stilts. I can’t help thinking of that when I see these pictures. LOL
