Refrigerator Cabinet Expansion

Since we decided to keep the original kitchen cabinets, the refrigerator space became a bit of a problem. Searching for refrigerators, we realized that the newer fridges on the market are all much larger than the space we have…which meant we would need to enlarge the area.

To add to the complication, the soffit would have to be extended as well.

Then the cabinet came down.

And a new cabinet went up.

The new wall gives us an additional 3 inches in width and about 6 inches in height to fit the new refrigerator.

To save some headache, we got rid of the idea of keeping the doors above, and left it as open shelving.

We’ve been prepping, sanding, and painting cabinet doors all week and salivating over the thought of our new refrigerator, which we haven’t even ordered yet.

Another tricky issue will be the range hood installation. At 10P the other night, we thought it would be a good idea to see what was above our current hood. It was held up by four tiny screws, so we didn’t think it would be a big deal to take a peak. As soon as the last screw came out, the hoods weight became very apparent. It was so heavy that we couldn’t even put it back up. Luckily, our new hood is scheduled for delivery this Friday!

Goodbye sticky, grimy range hood.

Hello new shiny, lovely hood. We can’t wait to see you.
